A Pride of Zebras

Image
My goodness, so many mutations yesterday! My purples are pretty well established now, but I've also gained some turquoise females. Interestingly over by the lift there is my first shiny male Zebra, you'll remember I did have a green male Bengal but he died quite young, this guy though grew up and had lime kids, both male and female. Interestingly they stay a lime colour from birth to adulthood, most of my other colour mutations have either only been babies and then they've swapped back to regular colours, or they were born in their regular colourway and changed to something more unusual when they hit adolescence. Another couple of mutations I've noticed, no photos for these unfortunately but I had a Norn with Grendel arms, unfortunately he died very young, but I have also noticed my first (on either laptop) gait mutation, I've noticed a lot of Norns who seem to move everywhere backwards. It doesn't seem to be harmful to them in any way, but

Ok That's Interesting

So both the purple and Bruin leg mutations seem to have firmly fixed themselves into my population, but interestingly my purple x Bruins have gained the purple fur all over their bodies, now in my Bengal population, the Norns with Bruin and Grendel parts that also had colour mutations, the colour was only present in their Bengal parts. So far it seems again that the colour mutations are only effecting the females though.

Where do these Bruin parts keep coming from?

Oooh first mutant Zebra over on the left there and... It's more Bruin legs! Now this is extra odd because while I was certain it was unlikely that a Bruin had somehow got mixed up in my Bengal population, this is another whole laptop with another download of Exodus and I'm still getting random Bruin parts thrown in? I wonder what would happen if I had a population of Bruins? Not long after that I got my first colour mutation, this fiery redhead that the autonamer amusing called Goldie! I'm not going to selectively breed any of these mutants like I have been with my Bengals, but I have saved a copy of Goldie in my onedrive, if I hit a point after a few hundred hours back on my regular laptop of samey looking Bengals I might throw her into the mix. I am hoping she breeds though, purple Zebras are amazingly cute.

Zebras

Had a bit of a crash on my laptop so it's away being repaired for the next week, while that's all going on I've fired up an old laptop and thought I'd have fun with a different Norn breed. On this one I'm breeding the ever so cute, Zebra Norns. I guess I have a thing for stripes.

Kastor

Image
Not a whole lot to report in this update, Bruin parts seem to be a very strong trait that's being passed on a lot since I reintroduced a few of the Bruingals to my main world, the only other real interesting thing is Kastor here, who is now 25 hours old and seems to have spent the last ten hours just chilling in the desert.

Bringing It All Back Home

Image
I've not had a whole lot to tell of late, I've managed to get stable populations of the Bruingal mutants, the Grengals (whose females are all a nice purple), and both colour variations (Rose and Berry Bengals), although with the latter I've still not been able to get the colour mutations to pass on to any males. I've kept copies of a few purebreds of each mutation in a separate file, I might upload them somewhere at some point if I ever get any readers! I do have an absolutely huge list of exported Norns now though, so I am gradually reintroducing them to the main population over in Hella to see what the next evolutionary step is!

SUDDENLY! Grendel Legs

Image
I seem to have hit an issue with my Berry Bengals in that the purple colouring only seems to pass to female Norns, and not the males, however I discovered that they are carrying the mutation even if it isn't visible. I discovered this when I found myself making yet another new world to pop the latest mutants into. I had a male Norn spontaneously develop Grendel legs, so I sent him off to Valhalla with a completely unrelated pure Bengal female, and a bunch of their daughters came out purple. Oddly enough though the Grendel legs seem happy to pass to everybody!

I Can Norn A Rainbow!

Things certainly are getting rather interesting! I had another few of purple ladies hatch yesterday! I still haven't managed to breed any rose or purple males, which is odd, but then the aging mutation seemed tied to gender at first also, so I don't know, perhaps female Norns are more susceptible to mutation? Unfortunately this first two did the same as all my other purples had and as soon as they aged up to Youth went back to their regular orange colouring. Then came Louise, who stayed purple through her Youth and into Adulthood, so I exported her and re imported her into Midgard, where she seems to be having a whale of a time laying a huge amount of eggs. While she doesn't seem to have laid any like the original purples, that only change colour to purple for a brief window of time, she's only had one child that's inherited her purple fur so far. Although she did have a child who started out as a rose coloured baby, unfortunately

Rose Bengals

Image
I finally have some more colour mutations! I spotted Virginia chilling with the other Norns in my main world, everybody else is kind of orange, but she has a lovely dusky rose colouring. Time to export her into a side world then! I actually started a new side world, Bifrost with the intention of breeding a little tribe of Rose Bengals, then popping a couple into Halla with the Bruin mutants, but I'm having a really hard time passing on the rose mutation. It doesn't seem to develop until adolescence, until then the Norns remain the standard Bengal orange, and so far it only seems to have passed along to two of Virginia's daughters.  Another one, named Zalona by the auto namer (what is it about that name?) turned a lovely purple in her adolescence, so I made another world, Midgard with the intention of having a nice little tribe of purple Norns.  Only to discover that when she hit Youth she switched back to the standard orange colouring. This i

Bruin Heads and Bruin Legs

Image
The selective breeding experiment has gone rather wonderfully and I now have a tribe of Norns with Bruin heads and legs and Bengal bodies. Huge shame that they're not green but we can't have everything. So for now I've gone back to playing my main world and hoping for another mutation.

Carel and Wesuri

Image
So after yesterday's adventures with Bruin legs, once I had managed to selectively breed my Norns in Halla (my side world) to all have the Bruin legs, I returned home to Hella (my main world) for a while, after letting my Norns wander around on their own for a few minutes I popped in to find two rather odd little creatures! First of all was Carel who for some reason had a Bruin head! And Wesuri, who was the first Norn to have exactly what I was looking for! A colour mutation! I exported both and then popped back over to Halla, where I exported all of the male Norns in their tribe to give my mutants more of a chance. I imported Wesuri first, and he impregnated one of the females almost immediately, but I noticed an issue, whenever he moved, Wesuri held his hands up in the air, it could have been just a gait issue, but I'm fairly certain this is a sign something wasn't quite right with him.  Before I had a chance to check him out with the hoverdoc h

Those Are Definitely Bruin Legs

Image
So in yesterday's entry I introduced our first Norn with a visual mutation, Jiani, who despite being a purebred Bengal has somehow got Bruin legs. I'm very curious as to how that happened as I have no Bruins in my world, and haven't since the previous run which ended in disaster when all of my Norns died of a bacterial infection. As she got older it became more and more obvious what those were. I decided to keep her in world until after her first pregnancy, unfortunately she didn't pass on her weird legs to her first born, but I figured she just needed a few more tries, so I exported her and started a side world by importing her and Xaver, our long lived Norn with 23 known children. Within seconds of being imported they got to work! Again the first born in this world didn't have her mother's Bruin legs either, I was beginning to lose hope but then Briala was born. Finally another Bengal with Bruin legs! Briala was shortly followed

I Guess They Weren't Immortal After All

Image
Sad news in today's update, it turns out that Thorid's mutation was one of longevity not immortality, her, Zalona and George all passed today, Zalona first at just over 23 hours. Thorid next, having reached 32, and finally George who I was not able to get a picture of, also just past 20. None of the three's children that they had with them in the Terrarium seem to have inherited their long lives, but I did find one of Thorid's grandsons still in the the Meso. As well as the exceptionally long life he's had 23 children born (likely there's more to come, there are eggs littered around everywhere!), so I made the decision to export him. I plan on re-importing him either to this world when this run is over, or to start a new side world with my mutants. I know he's long lived, so there's a chance he can pass that on, but also I know he's an excellent breeder, and that's a good trait if I'm trying to breed from another female

George

Image
I didn't get much of a chance to play yesterday but I did have Creatures 3 running in the background for a few hours. In that time Thorid and George's first egg in the Norn Terrarium hatched, a boy called Enrik.   The four also had a visitor, Gabi who doesn't seem to be that closely related to Thorid, she didn't stay long though, wandered around, laid an egg and then left through the bridge door, where last check she was wandering around trying to pick a door. Getting back to George though, it seems he is our first immortal male. This may cause some issues if he's hanging out with two immortal females in that if both sides have the immortality gene, it seems to me anyway that there's a much higher probability of passing it on. I'm trying to decide if it would be ethical to export George and Zalona into another world where I do still have Grendels roaming free to see if they're immune to their bacteria and punches.

Zalona

Image
Looks like one of Thorid (I got her name wrong yesterday)'s daughters might have picked up her long life/ immortality. I thought I'd found one earlier but she died so false alarm, but Zalona is now over seven hours old, Thorid herself is now over 20 hours and still going strong, laying at least one egg per hour with no signs of slowing down. Also when I went into Zalona's family tree I discovered her father Yasojiro (thanks for that mouthful auto namer) is   also one of Thorid's children, he died at one an hour and 41 minutes though, so I'm now wondering if this mutation can be carried by male Norns but is only active in female Norns? On further inspection it seems that almost all of Thorids female children have made it to the final life stage (Ancient), but only a handful of her male children have. Hmmmmmm I feel like I need a lab coat now while I constantly mutter the word "fascinating" As for Thorid, well she
